Lunar New Year Decoration Ideas

Examples

Fish Lantern

Made using 6 packets and some red paper

VERY Easy Lantern

This lantern uses 10 packets and is very easy, look for the tutorial above!

Pretty Red Packet Lantern

You only need 6 packets and a stapler. You can use the same style packet or 6 different ones for an eclectic style! Check at home for leftover red packets!

Mini Lantern

  • Created from recycled paper made by Mrs. Ana
  • Make multiple and create a garland or a chain!

Firecracker

  • Created from a toilet paper roll covered in red paper, you could also paint it red
  • Add many together to make a string of firecrackers!

Paper Cutting

  • Beautiful examples of paper cutting from Ms. Guan's classroom

Items to keep for reuse

  • Red packets
  • Red, gold, white, etc wrapping and tissue paper from Christmas presents
  • Red, gold, white ribbons from Christmas presents
  • Toilet paper and paper towel rolls
  • Cardboard from snack packages
  • Paper to recycle (give it to Mrs. Ana!)
  • Disposable wooden chopsticks (rinse them clean and then use them to press things into hot glue instead of your fingers)
  • Yarn, string, thread, ribbons from damaged clothing
  • Old decorations that are damaged or you don't like (remake them into something new!)
  • Crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue, tape, etc

Even if your class is not using them, another class would probably be very happy to have the materials! We're a community, let's help each other have a beautiful and impactful New Year!
